What is Invisalign? Invisalign braces are transparent, plastic, and non-invasive braces that are easy to remove, discreet, and take less time to align teeth than more traditional braces.

To begin with, our dentists will conduct a 3D scan to see the overall health of your teeth and fit the Invisalign braces for you suitably. As you will be advised at London City Smiles, occasional appointments are required to change the moulding as your teeth become straighter over time.

The Invisalign braces can easily be removed to clean, eat certain foods, and for your routine appointments.

Our dentists will recommend anybody with slight teeth misalignment to get Invisalign braces thanks to their effectiveness. For more severe cases of misalignment, it could be suggested that another form of braces is fitted.

If you’re experiencing crowding or spacing problems, Invisalign results in straighter teeth from 6-12 months for a lot of people, even if there is no strict timeframe. Our dentists will assess the amount of work required beforehand.

If you are looking to avoid the hassle that comes with metal braces, Invisalign is the answer for you. The nuisance of having a mouthpiece fixed in place without being able to remove it and having great difficulty cleaning it is why many people seek more information on Invisalign. Raise this concern during your consultation so you can discuss your options with our professionals.

The subtle mouthpiece you will be wearing makes Invisalign an attractive proposition. All you need to do is see the Invisalign before and after photos as evidence.

Part of our process is affixing the Invisalign attachments, which will help secure the aligner in place so that they can shape the teeth as desired. Our experienced dentists will ensure that the attachments are attached sufficiently to your aligners so that your teeth will align properly.

You can’t put a price on the comfort wearing Invisalign brings – not to mention the decreased risk of sores and ulcers occurring as they could with metal braces. The Invisalign costs vary depending on your consultation, scan, and other factors. Prices are discussed after a full and thorough consultation with our team.

Different Options in the Invisalign® range

Invisalign® Teen is a great option for our younger patients –compliance indicators can be provided to track use and progress.
Advantages – can be faster than fixed braces, are more comfortable than braces, removable to facilitate cleaning. They can easily maintain good oral hygiene by cleaning their teeth as normal. Replacement can be provided if aligners are misplaced (discuss with clinician).

Invisalign® i7 is for minor movements and takes up to 7 weeks to complete treatment.

Invisalign® Lite has a maximum of 14 aligners to correct minor orthodontic concerns and includes one refinement (up to another 14 aligners). Treatment time for this tier is approximately 6-9 months.

Invisalign® Comprehensive has unlimited alignments and refinements and is for individuals requiring more complicated treatments taking longer than a year.

Invisalign® is specifically for patients with crowding or spacing issues.

How long does Invisalign® treatment take?

The length of treatment is dictated by your Invisalign® doctor depending on how complicated your case is. Most people feel a difference wearing Invisalign® aligners after a few weeks, and results are usually noticeable after six months.

How are Invisalign® Appliances different to traditional Train-Track/ fixed braces?

Invisalign® is a clear brace with no metal. It is almost entirely invisible (apart from the aligners themselves and the attachments) and even you will be unable to tell you are wearing them.

How do they work?

Invisalign® appliances are made from a strengthened plastic material. Gentle forces applied to the teeth will help straighten your teeth over time.

How long does the treatment last?

Invisalign® treatments range from 9-18 months on average. The treatment is dependent on many factors depending on complexity and desired patient outcome.

How do I keep my teeth straight long term?

Retainers are fitted after the teeth straightening process. The dentist will place a fixed retainer behind the teeth and out of sight. Moluds/scans are taken to make customised retainers that will be worn to maintain your new straight smile.

Can I whiten my teeth with Invisalign®?

You can whiten during treatment. However, penetration of the gel under the attachments is unpredictable.

What are attachments?

Attachments facilitate tooth movements and hold the aligners in place. They differ depending on the desired movement for that tooth.

What is the biggest benefit of Invisalign® compared to other braces?

Invisalign® is clear and removable, meaning it is more comfortable and aesthetic than traditional braces. It is also easier to clean around the teeth.

Why should I choose Invisalign?

  • Almost entirely invisible
  • Removable
  • Bespoke to you
  • You can see your beautiful new straight smile unveil in as little as one week.
  • You can visualise your end tooth position before you start with your first aligner
    through the Clincheck software!

ClinCheck

The ClinCheck is a simulation of the movements required in creating your smile, giving you an idea of how your teeth will move week-by-week and a guide as to the prospective treatment time. The Clincheck will also show you how many attachments you will require and if there is any smoothing that will be needed between the teeth to enhance aesthetics or create space.

Metal braces vs. Clear Aligners for children and teenagers

    • There are many teeth straightening options for children and teenagers, with traditional metal braces being the most well-known method.
    • Metal braces can cause discomfort and injuries due to broken wires or sports-related injuries.
    • Tooth-coloured braces and Invisalign are less noticeable and more comfortable.
    • Invisalign® aligners are made of triple-layered acrylic and can be worn for 12 months or less, depending on the patients case.
    • Each aligner creates a gentle force contributing to the final tooth alignment.
    • The total amount of tooth movement accomplished can be substantial after wearing a whole series of aligners.

Details of Invisalign® treatment:

    • Effectively aligns teeth without the visibility of traditional metal braces.
    • Treats crooked teeth, overbites, underbites, misalignment, crowding issues, spacing issues, and gaps.
    • Made of a triple-layered thermoplastic material that looks similar to teeth-whitening trays.
    • Custom-made for each patient.
    • Gradually shifts teeth using a series of aligners.
    • Can work with most dental conditions.
    • Must be worn for at least 20 to 22 hours a day.
    • Should not be worn while smoking.
    • Cleaned with brushing, rinsing, and special cleaning tablets.
    • A retainer is necessary after treatment to keep teeth stable.
    • Just as effective as traditional braces.
    • Aligners are removable for eating and drinking, and for better oral hygiene.
    • Made of smooth plastic for a comfortable fit.
    • May cause temporary discomfort during each new aligner change.

Vivera Clear Retainers - What are they?

What are they?

Vivera retainers are Invisalign’s official retainer, designed to keep the teeth in place after treatment. They are made of the same high-quality, clear material as Invisalign aligners. Vivera retainers are thicker than Invisalign because they are meant for long- term use. A single set can last up to several years if you care for them properly. When  Invisalign® treatment is complete, you will need to wear your Vivera retainers every night indefinitely or as your dentist recommends. Your teeth will shift back out of alignment if you don’t wear them as directed.

Benefits

These clear retainers from Invisalign offer many benefits over other retainers:

  • 30% stronger than other retainers.
  • More durable and better at keeping your teeth aligned.
  • Lab-tested to last longer than other retainers.
  • Smooth and comfortable, with little irritation to the lips and mouth, mainly due to 3D imaging technology that creates a perfect fit.
  • Can be reordered easily because scans are digitally stored for future reference.
  • No additional appointments for impressions and imaging are needed.

Why do you need retainers?

When you have finished orthodontic treatment, be it with fixed braces or Invisalign aligners, you need to wear a retainer to keep your teeth in place. Without a retainer, your teeth will gradually attempt to move back into their original positions.
Orthodontic treatment can take months/years so it can take time to get your teeth to stay in their new positions. The same principle goes for maintaining the bite, which can partially or completely revert to the pre-treatment position. Vivera retainers can keep your teeth and your bite in their new alignment, and prevent gaps from appearing after your Invisalign aligner or braces treatment.

  • After completing orthodontic treatment, you must wear a retainer to maintain your teeth’s new position.
  • Without a retainer, your teeth can gradually move back to their original positions.
  • Orthodontic treatment requires time for teeth to stay in new positions, and the same applies to maintaining the bite, which can revert partially or entirely.
  • Vivera retainers can also prevent gaps from appearing after Invisalign or braces treatment.

How long do you have to wear an Invisalign® retainer?

  • The duration of wearing Vivera retainers after orthodontic treatment varies.
  • The dentist or orthodontist will have different protocols, and each case is unique.
  • Some people may have to wear their retainers full time and then reduce to wearing them just at night, while others may start with wearing them at night and then reduce to just 3 nights a week.
  • The recommendation for how long to wear the retainers depends on the individual case and the Invisalign doctor’s recommendation.
  • Vivera retainers can be offered to all orthodontic patients, whether they received.
  • Invisalign® aligners or traditional brackets and wires.

Vivera retainers can allow space for single or missing teeth:

  • Provide an aesthetic solution for the masking of dental spaces.
  • Preserve spaces and prevents drifting of neighbouring teeth.
  • Space for lingual wires (wires behind the front teeth to keep them in position).

Options for design:

  1. No lingual wire
  2.  Fit over the lingual wire (cover the wire)
  3. With a cut out (doesn’t cover the wire)

What is Vivera Retainer pre-debond?

  • This is the process for providing vivera retainers for patients who have receive fixed orthodontic braces.
  • It involves removing the wire but leaving the brackets in place and scanning the patients’ teeth.
  • With the pre-debond option, the clinician can scan the teeth with brackets in place and then replace the wire to maintain teeth position until the Vivera retainer arrives.
  • The pre-debond option allows the clinician to offer Vivera retainers to patients who did not receive Invisalign treatment.

How long do Vivera retainers last?

  • Invisalign Vivera retainers can last for several years after orthodontic treatment, and 3 sets are provided for backup if they wear or change shape.
  •  Each retainer is designed to last 1.5 years based on nightly wear.
  • It is recommended to replace the retainers as soon as they look worn or damaged, and it’s easy to order a replacement set if lost.
  • The orthodontist keeps the 3D scan on record, so a new set can be made in a few weeks unless the teeth have moved drastically (due to lack of retainer wear) or had new lab work fitted.
  • It’s important to alert the dentist or orthodontist promptly to organize a new set of retainers if necessary.

How do you get Invisalign® Vivera retainers?

  • Consult with an Invisalign provider and let them know you would like Vivera retainers.
  • Your orthodontist may need to take a scan of your teeth which will be stored in Invisalign’s database. This means that for future orders you shouldn’t need to get any scans done again, unless your teeth have moved a lot (through lack of wearing retainers) or you have had any lab work fitted.
  • The retainers will be fitted by your orthodontist or can be picked up from reception.

Wear schedule for Vivera retainers

  • For the first few months after treatment, the Vivera retainers should only be removed for eating or brushing teeth.
  • This helps to keep teeth in place while new bone grows around the shifted teeth.
  • It takes the body 9 to 12 months to grow enough bone and for the gums to mature to keep teeth stable without wearing a retainer.
  •  Failure to wear the retainers as required will result in teeth shifting.

3 to 6 Months After Treatment

Teeth become temporarily loose during all orthodontic treatment, including Invisalign therapy. This allows the teeth to shift into their final positions.

For the first 3 to 6 months after you finish Invisalign®, you’ll need to remember some important habits as the bone heals and the teeth stabilise into their final positions:

  • Wear your retainer for at least 22 hours a day.
  • Remove only when advised by your orthodontist (wear time varies from full time to nightly based on a case-by-case basis).
  • Clean your retainers regularly as advised.

6 to 12 Months After Treatment

At about 6 months, your dentist will evaluate your teeth at your routine examination. The teeth are likely to have stabilised considerably by this point.

During this phase, you should:

  • Wear your retainers at night instead of all day (8 to 12 hours).
  • Visit your orthodontist for progress checks-ups.
  • Continue practicing good oral hygiene.
  • Store your retainers in a case when you’re not using them.

12+ Months After Treatment

During this stage, your dentist or orthodontist will determine if enough new bone has formed to stabilize your teeth. Ideally, at this stage, you should wear your retainer every night for the rest of your life or as your doctor recommends.

Vivera retainer maintenance and replacements

You must wear retainers for the rest of your life. You’ll need to take excellent care of them to avoid the need for frequent replacements.

Here are some ways to keep your retainers in good shape:

When not in use, store them in a hard, clean case

  • Use cleaning products like the Retainer-Brite or Invisalign Cleaning Crystals.
  • Remove them before eating, so food doesn’t get stuck and cause. damage/bacteria build-up.
  • Avoid drinking hot liquids to prevent the plastic from melting or warping.

The recommended times for Vivera retainer replacements are:

  • Full-time users — Every 9 months
  • Night-time users — Every 18 months
  • In addition, whenever your retainers appear cracked, damaged or broken, it’s time to replace them.

“Invisalign® treatment is the subtlest way to get effective teeth alignment. Our patients comment on the confidence they feel with their appearance during as well as after their treatment.”
