Tooth extraction expertise

We always strive to save natural teeth wherever possible. There are, however, times when extraction is the best solution available for the benefit of a patient’s overall, as well as oral, health.

In these cases, we can carefully remove the affected tooth (or teeth) and provide options to replace it/them. Possible solutions for this include dental implants or dental bridges.

Wisdom teeth extractions

As well as removing regular teeth, we are also able to extract wisdom teeth if they become impacted and start to cause problems. Despite the procedure’s daunting reputation, the reality is much less intimidating and many patients find the experience easier than anticipated.

Thanks to our advanced technology, we are able to keep discomfort to an absolute minimum. As well as highly effective local anaesthetics, we are also able to provide sedation for more severe cases, or particular anxious patients.

Teeth extraction FAQs

What’s the first step if I need to have a tooth extracted?

In most cases, the need for an extraction is identified by your dentist after a general check-up or while carrying out another treatment. A specific extraction consultation will then be arranged for further investigation.

This will allow the dentist to carefully assess your case and guide you on your options and the best way forward.

What exactly are wisdom teeth?

Typically, adults have a total of 32 teeth, with the last ones to emerge usually being the wisdom teeth. These are molar teeth that are situated at the rear of the mouth. They typically come through between the ages of 17 and 25, although there may be occasions where it happens beyond this period.

Why do they sometimes need to be removed?

The removal of wisdom teeth becomes necessary if they become impacted and cause problems for neighbouring teeth. This can lead to painful infection if left untreated.

It is also not unusual for dentists to recommend the removal of wisdom teeth even if they are currently not causing any issues. This is often done as a precautionary measure to prevent potential complications in the future.

Do wisdom teeth always cause problems?

No. In cases where there is enough space, wisdom teeth can potentially become well-positioned and not cause any adverse issues. Initially, there may be some discomfort as the tooth emerges, but this should subside quickly as the tooth becomes fully established.
