The Main Factors in Skin Aging
The reasons for rapid skin aging vary from person to person, and while there are a variety of ways you can delay premature or increased aging, it is sadly something that we can’t fully avoid. BUT there are some common causes of skin aging that you can avoid:
It’s no secret that smoking has a whole bunch of negative effects on your skin and body. By inhaling cigarette smoke you’re absorbing the chemicals into your blood, leaving it unable to transport vitamins and nutrients around your skins cells. This then has the knock on effect of impacting collagen in the skin which is why smokers skin often looks so haggard.
Whether you’re squinting in the sun or frowning at a comment, continually frowning is one of the biggest causes of fine lines and wrinkles – this is because contracting the muscles beneath the skin causes them to become more and more pronounced and permanent. So turn that frown upside down and halt the damage the facial expression is doing.
If you’ve ever noticed how horrible your skin feels after a night on the town then it may shock you to know that it’s because it has been dehydrated by the amount of alcohol you’ve drunk. As a result the amount of Vitamin A has been reduced, and seeing as this is an antioxidant it impacts on how quickly you can recover from a bender. This can lead to skin having a lifeless complexion and blotchy appearance due to the blood vessels becoming dilated.
Even though we barely get any sun, and with summer just on the horizon it pains us to say so, but the most common cause of skin aging is as a result of prolonged exposure to the sun. The reason for this is due to the fact that harmful UV rays from the sun break down the collagen in the skin – this helps your skin remain strong and stretchy, so prolonged exposure leads to dry and saggy skin.
Making some simple alterations to our lifestyle as outlined above can result in some big improvements to the vivacity of your skin, ensuring it looks full of colour and life. On top of this, there are a variety of minor procedures you can undergo to help restore this balance back into your skin – from dermal fillers to wrinkle relaxing injections.
