IV Sedation

For many people, fear of the dentists prevents regular check-ups and leads to poor oral health. IV sedation is an ideal way of helping you to relax and have the dental treatment you need. So, say goodbye to bad dental experiences and hello to great-looking teeth!

IV sedation is when the sedatives (which provide pain and stress relief during your treatment) are given directly into a vein. If you have to undergo a more complicated procedure or you are nervous about receiving treatment, this is one of the most effective sedation methods available to you.

A thin plastic tube is put into a vein on your arm or back of your hand, then the sedative is provided and takes immediate effect. You will still be conscious which will enable you to understand and communicate with your dentist, if needed. However, you will also feel very deeply relaxed, less aware of the procedure and slightly sleepy. This kind of sedation is perfect for those that need dental treatment, without experiencing anxiety or pain.

“If you suffer from dental anxiety, or have a complicated procedure, IV sedation is a great way of making sure your procedure is painless and stress-free!”

Problems Addressed by Composite Veneers

We will inform you prior to your dental appointment of the best ways to prepare for undergoing IV sedation, these can include: having a light meal an hour or so before, eliminating alcohol consumption 12 hours before your treatment, or bringing a chaperon with you. All these options will be discussed, of which the right ones for you will be advised.

On the day of your dental appointment, we will talk you through how the IV sedation will be administered, and evaluate which vein will be best for you. Once this has been established, we will provide the sedative through a thin plastic tube into your vein. We will also attach a monitor to your finger, which records your blood pressure and oxygen levels. After the treatment, we will check your blood pressure again to make sure that everything has returned to a normal state.

Benefits of IV Sedation

IV sedation is perfect for those that suffer from dental anxiety, or for those that need to have a more complex dental treatment. This kind of sedative greatly reduces your anxiety and pain levels by: deeply relaxing you, making you feel sleepy, and reducing awareness of the procedure. This method is completely safe and extremely effective, as our dentists are all specially trained to provide IV sedation for our patients.

If you would like to discuss the possibility of undergoing IV sedation in your next appointment, then make time to speak to your dentist, or get in touch with our team, who will be more than happy to answer any questions!
